What press-fit fittings are
Press-fit (often called press copper) uses a manufactured fitting with an O-ring seal. A battery-powered press tool compresses the fitting onto cleaned copper tube in seconds. There is no open flame, which matters near framing, insulation and finished spaces. Joints are consistent when the tube is cut square, deburred and fully seated.
Where solder still earns its keep
Traditional sweat solder is proven, compact and ideal in tight remodeled cavities where a press jaw will not fit. It also remains common on water heater dielectric unions and certain valve packages. The tradeoff is flame, flux cleanup and more sensitivity to technique in wet or vertical awkward spots.
